READING, OH (FOX19) -

Police are looking for the suspect after a police chase through Reading with shots fired on Monday.

Dispatchers say 22-year-old Mario Gibbs, also known as 'Rio', has been identified as the suspect.

According to Reading Police, an Arlington officer noticed that the passenger side of a nearby car kept opening and closing. Officers say that further inspection revealed Gibbs was allegedly beating and choking a woman in the front seat.

The officer pulled the car over, and the victim and the man suspected of strangling her got out of the car. Officers on the scene tell our reporter that the strangling suspect quickly ran away from the scene.

Police believe that an acquaintance was waiting to pick up Gibbs in a black Buick LaCrosse. Officers say they were able to get in front of the LaCrosse, and they attempted to make the driver pull over.

Police say Gibbs then pushed the driver out of the car and continued to drive.

An officer reports that he shot the Buick's tires and engine block, but the suspect would not stop. Police say Gibbs sped away from the scene in the car, nearly hitting the officer firing shots.

The vehicle was later found by police. However, Gibbs is still at large.

Court records indicate he was previously indicted on multiple felony drug possession and trafficking charges.

Anyone with information regarding the incident or Gibb's whereabouts should call police.
