SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
Shreveport Police have identified a suspect in the deadly shooting Tuesday night in north Shreveport.
19-year-old Andrew Smith, of the 4500 block of North Market Street, is wanted for second degree murder.
21-year-old Prentiss Tyre Britton was shot to death just before 10 Tuesday night in the parking lot of the Cooper Road Plaza Apartments, also known locally as the Peach Street Apartments.
Witnesses told police that the gunman stood over Britton and pumped as many as a dozen bullets into him. Britton died about an hour later at LSU Medical Center.
Police Cpl. Marcus Hines says authorities first had been called about 45 minutes before the shooting to investigate a fight at the apartments. Police responded to the scene, found nothing and returned to service.
The next time they responded to the scene, authorities found Britton lying in the apartment parking lot, which is located in the 2900 block of Peach Street.
This is the second brutal murder that the Britton family has faced in less than five years. Prentiss is Vickie Britton's grandson. Vickie Britton's 18-year-old pregnant daughter, Tavia Sills, was murdered in September 2008.
Lamondre Tucker was found guilty in March 2012 in Sills' death, who was shot to death and later found in a pond off of Legardy Street in Shreveport. Tucker was sentenced to death.
Police are urging anyone with information on the whereabouts of Andrew Smith to contact Shreveport Police at (318) 673-6955 or Crime Stoppers at (318)673-7373 or on their website at www.lockemup.org
