The Faulkner baseball program received its first-ever No. 1 ranking Sunday, when the NAIA released its final Top 25 poll. The Eagles (47-10), Southern States Athletic Conference regular season and tournament champions, received 11 first-place votes and finished one point ahead of previously top-ranked Oklahoma City, which lost Saturday in its conference title game to No. 4 Lubbock Christian.
Faulkner will host one of nine NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round sites this week at Harrison Field, with the winners of each five-team tournament advancing to the Avista-NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho, May 24-31.
The Opening Round brackets will be released Monday afternoon. Games at the site hosted by Faulkner begin Thursday at 11, 3 and 7, with the top-seeded Eagles playing in the final game of the day.
