7 from 7: Stories for your Thursday afternoon

Good afternoon, everyone!

Here are a few stories to check out this afternoon:

1. There was more humor than sadness at George Jones' funeral Thursday at the Grand Ole Opry House as thousands gathered in Nashville - some arriving hours before sunrise - to pay their respects to the man whose voice has defined country music for more than half a century.

2. It's cold. It's May. Read what Mark Scirto has to say about that here.

3. The Smith County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help in the recent theft of almost $10,000 worth of diesel fuel and other items from three locations in South Tyler and Southern Smith County. There's a rather odd surveillance video accompanying this one; check it out here.

4. Two more people have been arrested as part of a massive East Texas identity theft ring, bringing the arrest count to sixteen. Investigators said 45 victims of identity fraud have come forward, prompting a four month investigation involving 21 suspects.

5. An Amber Alert has been issued for two girls missing from Llano, Texas. 15-year-old Misty Sloan and 13-year-old Savannah Sloan are missing from Kingsland, a suburb of Llano. They were last seen on Wednesday.

6. It's Mother's Day, that time of year when you let Mom know how much you appreciate everything she's done for you. But sometimes those expressions of love get lost in translation; here are ten of the worst Mother's Day gifts ever!

7. Cowboys and cowboy hats are synonymous with the legacy of the Lone Star State. So much so, many people who are never around cattle wear cowboy hats. One Texas business has been making these Texas symbols for over 100 years. Check out their story here.
