Tyler native Alaina Johnson was back at Texas East Gymnastics on Wednesday. The NCAA National Champion returned to competitive roots. Johnson's gymnastics journey began at Texas East Gymnastics as a little girl.
Last week, Johnson won the NCAA champions in the uneven bars as well as the team title with the Florida Gators.
"This was a dream come true for me," said Johnson. "Going into Florida I knew they had never won a national championship. That's one of the reasons why I wanted to go there. I wanted to be a part of team that won the championship the first time. We had to work so hard for three years. We put everything into that last year and it all paid off and we final won ourselves a national championship."
Johnson is the first Florida Gator to ever win the uneven bars national championship. She's also the first NCAA champion from Tyler East Gymnastics.
