FLAGSTAFF, AZ (CBS5/AP) -

An Air Force transport that flew Vice President Joe Biden to northern Arizona on Friday remained at the Flagstaff airport Tuesday because of an engine problem.

A spokesman for the 89th Airlift Wing at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland says the plane, an Air Force version of a Boeing 757 jetliner, ingested some type of debris while landing.

Maj. Joel Harper says the plane landed normally and nobody noticed anything until a routine post-flight inspection.

According to Harper, the plane was still being checked out Tuesday.

"A maintenance recovery team from Joint Base Andrews was dispatched to Flagstaff to perform repairs to the aircraft," Harper said in a statement. "Additionally, personnel from Luke Air Force Base are being consulted on-site to facilitate the safe return of the aircraft. The C-32 is expected to return in the coming days."

Biden returned to Washington on a different Air Force transport. He was in Arizona to speak at McCain Institute forum Friday evening in Sedona.
