Millsaps advances to SAA championship series

JACKSON, MS (MILLSAPS ATHLETICS) - The Majors scored five in the sixth inning to erase a 4-1 Hendrix lead and won 8-4 on Sunday night to advance to the SAA championship series.

The Majors will take on the Birmingham Southern Panthers, who advanced out of the bottom half of the bracket. The series is set for May 7th and 8th in Jackson.

The Warriors knocked starter Zander Romano out of the game in a four-run third. West Hammond, who got the save earlier on Sunday, came into throw 5 and two-thirds innings of one-hit ball.

The Majors would counter with a lone tally in the third as Isaac Glenn drew a bases-loaded walk to score Keith Shumaker.

William Chenoweth doubled home two runs to start the five-run rally. Jerrod Myers would follow with a single to tie the game at 4. Stephen Gates brought home what amounted to the game-winning run on a groundout and Shumaker brought Myers home on a sac fly.

Kevin Wall would add insurance in the eighth, his single brought home Gates to make it 8-4. Friday night's winning pitcher Will Edwards threw a scoreless ninth to send the Majors on to the title series.

The Majors now sit at 32-11 and will take on the Panthers for at least the fifth and sixth times this year when they come to Jackson next week.
