Pedestrian killed after being struck by truck

PALESTINE, TX (KLTV) -

Released by the Palestine Police Department:

On 04-28-2013 just after midnight officers from the Palestine Police Department responded to a traffic accident on Crockett Road at Oakland St.  Officers arrived on the scene and found that a young man was walking down the street and was hit by a Chevy truck.

The male subject who has not yet been identified was said to have been walking north bound along the street. The Chevy truck was traveling north bound in the outside lane of travel. The male subject was struck by the truck as the man walked along the roadway.

Members of the local fire department and EMS arrived on scene to treat the victim. The victim had received serious injuries from the impact and died at the scene. Justice of the Peace Carl Davis pronounced the young man dead. Judge Davis ordered an autopsy be conducted at the medical examiner's office in Tyler, Texas.

The driver of the Chevy truck was not injured. The name of the truck driver will not be released at this time.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, to include why the victim was in the roadway. The driver of the truck has cooperated with police concerning the accident. There was also another person walking with the victim at the time of the accident. Police have talked with this possible witness in an attempt to piece together what took place.

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Lynn Hubert is assisting with the investigation.
