JACKSON, MS (JSU ATHLETICS) – The Jackson State baseball team defeated the Alcorn State Braves 5-2, completing the series sweep, in Southwestern Athletic Conference action at Braddy Field on Saturday.
With the win the Tigers improved to a 26-18, 19-5 record and clinched the SWAC Eastern Division title.
The two teams played a double-header on Friday and JSU won the first game 5-2 and won the second game 6-5. In Saturday's action, Aneko Knowles pitched 6.2 effective innings to pick up the win. He gave up only one run on four hits and struck out six betters. Cedric Walker suffered the loss. In six innings of work he gave up four runs on five hits, while striking out four batters.
Ethan Bright led the Tigers offense with two hits and two runs. Jose Cruz finished with a hit and two RBI. Ashton Lewis led Alcorn State with two hits and two RBI.
JSU built a two run lead over the first two innings. The Tigers increased its lead to four with a two run third inning. Alcorn State threatened JSU late in the game, scoring a run in the seventh and another in the eighth. JSU scored the final run of the game at the bottom of the eighth.
