M. L. King bridge, 1 lane of I-20 westbound still closed after fatal crash

GREGG COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Authorities shut down an overpass and parts of I-20 in Gregg County because of a fatal accident involving an 18-wheeler that burst into flames on impact.

According to Longview police, the accident happened just after 4 a.m. on I-20 westbound at mile marker 596.

Westbound traffic was diverted to the south access road at Estes Parkway and back onto the interstate at the next entrance.

According to TxDOT's Larry Krantz, one lane of I-20 westbound is now open. The other lane should be open in time for rush hour this evening.

There were two people in the truck at the time of the accident, a passenger in the sleeper part of the truck died at the scene. The other person has been taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. There was also a dog in the cab of the truck that made it out alive.

Motorists should use an alternate route to avoid delays until further notice.
