The City of Wells needs help from East Texans to win a grant to upgrade their park

WELLS, TX (KTRE) -

The City of Wells is asking East Texans to step up and help their community win a $25,000 dollar grant from State Farm to upgrade their city park.

The Wells Volunteer Fire Department applied for the grant and so far the community has voted the project into the top 200 but they still need to make it into the top 40 to get the money.

Community leaders want to use the grant money to get new playground equipment and add a splash pad to their out-of-date park.

Wells city councilwoman, Paula Goins says the grant would really help them build a better park.

It would just be nice. Our equipment is all old it was bought second hand back in the 2000, 2005 somewhere along in there. We painted it recently. It looks a lot better," said Goins.

Pastor David Goodwin says they hope to get the grant and start making progress on the park as soon as the funds come together.

"Well what we're hoping to do is develop our park in a way that it'll benefit the kids here. Our park is lacking a lot of areas so we're hoping to develop a splash pad within the park and also some other some other equipment for the park so that kids will have somewhere to go and hangout and stay out of trouble," said Goins.

There are only 4 days left to vote and help Wells get in the top 40. Voting ends on Monday, April 29th.

Everyone can vote 10 times a day.
