On Saturday at approximately 8:30pm, officers from the Palestine Police Department responded to a disturbance in the 200 block of Crest Drive. Police also received a tip that a wanted person, Jeorge Mendoza, was at the location and may be involved in the incident.
Responding officers arrived in the area and observed Jorge Mendoza jump from a silver SUV parked in the drive of a residence. Mendoza ran through the back yard and into a wooded area. Police searched the area and were not able to locate Mendoza.
Officers from the Palestine Police Department, Anderson County Sheriff's Office, Department of Public Safety troopers and officers from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) assisted in the search for Mendoza. TDCJ officers used tracking dogs to assist in the search for Mendoza. A DPS helicopter was also used in the search.
Mendoza had a big head start before all of the needed resources could be brought into use. He was able to make his way through the wooded area and it is believed that Mendoza was able to slip through the perimeter before the dogs and helicopter could get into place.
Mendoza was involved in another incident with police just over a month ago in Cherokee County. Information received indicated that Mendoza may have been involved in a short car chase before he was able to flee into the woods on foot. Police also believe that Mendoza may have been armed during this incident.
Mendoza is wanted on several felony charges, including a state parole warrant and possible federal charges. Jeorge Mendoza should be considered armed and dangerous. Mendoza is known to frequent the Westwood area of Palestine.
Jeorge Mendoza is a 30-year-old Hispanic male. He is approximately 5'05" tall and weighs approximately 160 pounds. Mendoza has black hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Jeorge Mendoza should call the Palestine Police Department at 903-729-2254 or CRIME STOPPERS at 903-729- (TIPS) 8477.
