Restaurant offers free food for concealed carry holders

BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

Fried chicken was more than a meal on Saturday for supporters of gun rights at one Bossier City restaurant.

As the gun control discussion gets under way in the Louisiana legislature, one Bossier City chicken restaurant is joining the conversation in an unconventional way.

Chicken Express offered free #1 combo meals for concealed handgun permit holders.

Owner Randal Neel says it's probably the busiest Saturday they've ever had.

But it's not just about business. Neel says it's his way of taking a stand as a gun rights advocate, and making a statement as the Louisiana legislature considers more than a dozen bills that have been filed dealing with gun regulations. "It feels really good to be able to stand up for what you believe in."

Concealed permit holder Ronnie Corbi was happy to take advantage of the deal, while taking a stand for guns and against crime at the same time. "Until criminals and crooks know there is someone that can fight back, they can do whatever they want."

Most of the bills being debated in the Louisiana Legislature are pro-gun. Only a few would tighten regulations. For instance, one bill looks to bar people with certain mental health issues from buying guns. Another would require you to take a training class before buying a gun.

Rep. Barbara Norton (D - Shreveport) wants it make it a crime to leave a firearm unlocked, and Rep. Austin Badon (D - New Orleans) wants to create stiffer punishments for illegal gun sales.

Gun control advocates say better regulation is key to reducing violence in Louisiana, while those who oppose stricter regulations say guns are not the issue.

    From the Tyler Police Department On Sunday, October 22, 2017 at 1:16 a.m., Tyler Police responded to the 8300 block of Paluxy Drive on a head-on collision. Upon arrival by EMS and Tyler Fire it was determined that that one driver was deceased and the other driver was pinned in. Accident investigators said that a 2014 GMC Sierra driven by Dakota Payne, W/M, age 27, of Diana, Texas was traveling northbound on Paluxy and drove into the southbound lane striking a 2000 GMC Yukon head-on....

    Longview Fire Department responds to residential fire

    The Longview Fire Department responded to a residential fire on the corner of Alpine Road and Bolivar Street in Longview. Five fire engines responded. Witnesses stated that flames were appearing out of the house. The fire is under control but is not completely out yet.
