TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

KLTV is learning more information about an East Texas convicted murderer arrested after police found guns and drugs in his Tyler home.

Richard Hartsfield,45, is now behind bars in Smith County, charged with theft of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and delivery of a controlled substance between four and 200 grams.

On Thursday evening, police executed a search warrant on his northwest Tyler home on Thursday where they found seven guns, crack cocaine and marijuana.

"He did commit a murder back in '88 behind Harvey Hall in the parking lot. He was sentenced to 40 years; he served 20 and got out on parole," said Don Martin with the Tyler Police Department.

According to Smith County court documents, Hartsfield confessed to fatally shooting Clifton LaSalle McGee back in 1988. He was paroled in July of 2008 and has been living in Smith County since then.

Martin said police investigated Hartsfield before executing Thursday's search warrant.

Now, Hartsfield is behind bars in Smith County with bonds totaling $100,000.
