Dr. Edwin Duncan named president of Texas Surgical Society
S. Edwin Duncan, M.D., vascular surgeon with East Texas Vascular Associates in Tyler, was installed as 2013-2014 president of the Texas Surgical Society at its recent annual meeting in Temple.
Dr. Duncan began his practice of general and vascular surgery in Tyler in 1975. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he completed his internship at the Dallas Veterans Administration Hospital and his residency in general surgery at the University of Texas, San Antonio. He went on to complete fellowship training in peripheral vascular surgery at St. Thomas Hospital-Vanderbilt University in Nashville. He is a long-time member of the Smith County Medical Society.
The Texas Surgical Society, founded in 1915 in Galveston, is an organization of 400 surgeons from communities across the state. Membership in the society is by invitation only, including physicians who practice in both academic and private settings. Several Tyler physicians are members of the society, including Dr. Pat Thomas, who is a past president.
