Cincy to host Midwest Golden Gloves tournament


Several young boxers will be hitting the ring this weekend in Cincinnati.

The Cincinnati Golden Gloves 4 Youth, one of the top amateur programs in country, will host the 2013 Midwest Regional Golden Gloves Tournament on April 12th & 13th.

More than 50 boxers between 8 and 34-years-old will compete for the Regional Championship. Weight classes range from 108 to 201+ pounds.

Champions from the event will advance to the National Golden Gloves tournament, scheduled for May in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Current WBC light heavyweight champion Adrien Broner is expected to be among several boxing celebrities in a meet-and-greet prior to the tournament.

The event will be held in the Mount Auburn Gym at the Cincinnati Recreation Center, located at 270 Southern Avenue.

The Midwest regional will begin at 7 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under with a parent.
