Letters from Marilyn Monroe

Welcome to a new week; here's hoping it's a great one!

Here's what we're working on for you today in the newsroom:

First, a treasure trove of rare letters from the likes of Marilyn Monroe and John Lennon is hitting the auction block soon. We'll show you the collection, a rare glimpse of history, during East Texas News at 4.

At 5, President Obama headed to Connecticut today trying to whip up support for new gun control legislation. The White House says the president will appeal to lawmakers' hearts, reminding them of an obligation to the victims of the Sandy Hook shooting. Whether you agree or disagree with him, you'll not want to miss this story.

Also at 5, Dr. Ed Dominguez will join us to discuss a new strain of bird flu which has killed seven people in China. Infectious diseases are Dr. Ed's specialty, so you'll want to hear what he has to say.

Then tonight at 6, An East Texas community is coming together to help two families who lost three children and a home in a weekend fire. The fire occurred at about 3:00 a.m. on Sunday. Our Melanie Torre spoke with community members today and will tell you how you can donate clothes or money to help this family dealing with immense loss today. Stay tuned, as we know you'll want to pitch in.

At 6, we'll share with you the incredible story of a local mechanic who called his customer to discuss his car; the customer was having a stroke. The mechanic started asking the man to communicate via taps since he couldn't speak coherently. Then he called 911 on another line. We'll share the call with you this evening, and we spoke with his family today, as well. Our Mitch Goulding will bring you the whole story tonight.

Also, Meteorologist Grant Dade will join us from the StormTracker 7 Weather Center to bring you the latest updates regarding what you can expect in the week ahead.
