Palestine police investigating weekend burglary

From the Palestine Police Department:

PALESTINE, TX (KLTV) - On Saturday at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers from the Palestine Police Department responded to the area of North Queen Street and Green Street in reference to a call of a suspicious person.

Police were advised of two men in the area carrying a large object. The caller saw the men and thought something was not right. This concerned citizen yelled for the men to get away from the area and also yelled that the police were on the way, the men dropped the object and fled the scene on foot.

Police responded to the area and found that the object the men had dropped was a safe. Further investigation led to the Sonic on Palestine Ave. Officers found that the front door to the Sonic had been smashed with a large rock. It was also determined that the safe did in fact belong to the Sonic.

Police were able to develop some leads into the matter. The police were also able recover some items of evidence from the area. The evidence will be forwarded to the Department of Public Safety Crime Lab for testing.

The incident is still under investigation at this time. Police are asking that if anyone in the area may have seen the suspects or a suspicious vehicle in the area please call the Palestine Police Department at 903-729-2254 or CRIME STOPPERS at 903-729-TIPS (8477).
