LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

A Longview man is recovering in the hospital after being shot in the head Sunday evening.

Longview police say around 5 p.m., officers were called to Davis Street after learning a man had been shot in the head with a handgun. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.

A short time later, police located the suspect in the 2300 block of 12th Street. Larry Donnell Davis, 49, was arrested and charged aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. He is being held on $20,000 bond.

Davis has an extensive criminal history dating back to May 1984, according to the Gregg County Jail.

Police say the victim, whose name is not being released, was alert when he was taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center.
