LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

A registered sex offender who broke into an East Texas university dorm, has been sentenced to prison.

53-year-old Robert Roy Saurenmann III was arrested in November of 2011 after he broke into Tyler Residence Hall on the campus of Letourneau University and tried to take improper pictures.

The school credits students with aiding in his arrest after they saw Saurenmann, recognized the man was out of place and called police.

He has dozens of prior arrests, ranging from assault to drug possession. A court sentenced him to 10 years in prison.  Saurenmann was charged with burglary of a habitation.

In 2001, he was convicted of indecency with a child and served a six-year prison sentence.
