A big send off in one East Texas town for soldiers being mobilized for deployment to Afghanistan.
Hundreds of well wishers turned out at the Kilgore college campus, to show appreciation for Texas guard members who are deploying to Afghanistan. 100 members of the 144th infantry battalion will deploy tonight, and members of the community took it upon themselves to hold a family day for the soldiers. They leave behind their regular jobs and their families, and their community recognizes their sacrifice.
"Everyone came out was very supportive we're very thankful to the city, Kilgore college , all the friends family the people that came out. They've been extremely supportive and we couldn't have had a better event today," says bravo company command officer captain Rodney Robinson.
"I wanted to be a part of it because my grandson is going away, plus all of the other soldiers that are here today," says well-wisher Janell Kinsey.
The soldiers will be deployed in security and peacekeeping roles in the 9-month deployment.
