TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas man was sentenced for charges stemming from a fatal car accident back in October.

Justin Echols entered a guilty plea to the charge of criminally negligent homicide in the death of 27-year-old Michelle Allen, who was killed when the truck Echols was driving lost control going around a curve and hit a tree. Firefighters believe Echols got on the ATV and went down the road, crashed that vehicle and fled on foot.

Allen was ejected and pinned underneath the truck. She died from her injuries.

Tonia Allen, the stepmother of Allen's children testified on the impact of their mother's death on the children.

Echols was sentenced to 10 years for accident involving injury/death. He was sentenced to 8 years for criminally negligent homicide charge. Charges will be served concurrently. He will get credit for six months already served, and he also has the right to appeal. Echols will be eligible for probation in four years.
