KAUFMAN COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -
The Kaufman County Sheriff's Department has arrested a man for making terroristic threats in relation to the murder of Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife Cynthia.
According to sheriff's spokesman Justin Lewis, Nick Morale, 56, of Terrell, was arrested on Tuesday for making terroristic threats on a tip line. He is being held in the Kaufman County Jail on $1 million bond.
While investigating the murder of the McLellands, a threat against the safety of a county official was received. WFAA learned that Morale is accused of saying "the judge is next." According to the arrest affidavit, investigators visited Morale's address after linking it to the phone number listed on the call log. Morale was arrested in Kaufman County.
When Morale was arrested, the agent noted that Morale had blocked his phone's caller ID feature when the call was made to the tip line.
Officials do not believe there is anything to link Morale to the murders of the McLellands or Mark Hasse. Morale is not believed to be affiliated with any white supremacy groups.
The investigation into the murders of Mike and Cynthia McLelland is ongoing. Investigators from many law enforcement agencies are working on leads that have been received on the tip line and through other channels.
A person of interest or a suspect has not been named in either case.
Kaufman County Sheriff David Byrnes asks citizens to be aware of their surroundings, always err on the side of caution, and never hesitate to call 911.
Anyone with any information on the murders of Mike and Cynthia McLelland is encouraged to contact the Kaufman County Crimestoppers tip line at 877-TIPSKCC (877-847-7522) or online at KaufmanCountyCrimestoppers.org.
