RYLAND HEIGHTS, KY (FOX19) -

Two siblings from Ryland Heights Elementary School got the surprise of a lifetime on Monday.

Sergeant James Wells has been deployed to Afghanistan for 11 months. On Monday, Wells made a surprise visit to his children's school.

Third grade student James Wells and first grader Mia Wells are originally from Alaska, but have been staying with relatives in Ryland Heights, Kentucky.

Sgt. Wells said he's ready to return home and make up for lost time.

"I feel great. I've been waiting for this day for 11 months. First thing we're going to do is go to a ski resort and learn how to snowboard and then after that maybe go camping."

Wells says he will be able to stay at home with his family for at least the next year.
