SCOTUS: No review in case of man convicted of murdering Tyler man, raping fiancee

Posted: Updated:

The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to review the case of a Texas death row inmate who's set to die next week for an East Texas slaying more than two decades ago.

Rickey Lynn Lewis was convicted in 1997 of sexually assaulting a Tyler woman, Connie Wilton, and killing her fiance George Newman, during a home burglary in September of 1990.

Lewis got the death penalty. But, last year, his attorneys tried to convince a Smith County judge Lewis was mentally retarded.

Lewis is scheduled for execution on April 9, 2013.
