It is estimated there are more than 23,000 people forced out of their homes and into shelters in parts of Florida.
The Red Cross and Salvation Army are already on the scene and some East Texans are among those providing assistance.
KLTV spoke with one of those workers Monday. Susan Campbell, a disaster relief specialist with the Red Cross of Tyler, is now stationed in the Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda area. An area that is believed to be one of the hardest hit.
It is her job to coordinate communications between the Red Cross and other relief organizations. She expects to be in Florida for at least three weeks.
