CLIFTON, OH (FOX19) -
Mio's Pizzeria, a local franchise with locations throughout Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, held a grand opening for its newest location on Short Vine, near the University of Cincinnati campus.
Franchisees Carter and Kelli Gagen designed the 2,200-square-foot restaurant with UC students in mind – from the wall of past Bearcat mascots to the large UC logo on the center wall.
The restaurant will be open until 1 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday with deliveries ending at 3:30 a.m.
"We were drawn to this location and to the energy of the students," Kelli Gagen said. "We've placed special attention into making this a place that welcomes UC students and other Uptown visitors."
Mio's Pizzeria serves both New York-style pizzas and Chicago deep-dish pizzas. The restaurant seats 60 and features a large bar, made of reclaimed wood and an old slate roof. The full bar includes 20 taps, many of which are from local breweries such as Rivertown, Christian Moerlein, Mt. Carmel and Listermann. The restaurant will also serve Lee's Famous Recipe chicken.
"We couldn't be more pleased to be opening here," Carter Gagen said. "With Fifth Third Arena within sight of Mio's, fans, alumni and students alike will enjoy the UC spirit here and be in good company."
The new location is located at 2634 Vine Street. Uptown Consortium provided both financial and professional assistance for the Mio's on Short Vine. The nonprofit community development corporation leases the Short Vine space to the Gagens.
