Building scheduled for demolition collapses

MOORES HILL, IN (FOX19) -

Emergency crews are dealing with a partial building collapse in Moores Hill, Indiana.

The building was a lodge for a fraternal group many years ago. Police say the building was vacant at the time of the collapse.

The city of Moores Hill owned the building and had just put bid requests into the local newspaper to demolish the building.

The situation began around 10 p.m. Wednesday night when a woman nearby reported hearing a crash. The entire backside of the building had crumbled.

An apartment near the building has been evacuated, displacing nine people. There is also a gun shop nearby. Crews say a further collapse could threaten these buildings.

No injuries have been reported and so far there is no damage to the surrounding structures.

Three roads in the area were shut down as a result of the collapse: Manchester, Broadway and Main.
