2nd alleged victim files spanking lawsuit

Ron Kronenberger Ron Kronenberger
WAYNESVILLE, OH (FOX19) -

It was a story that caught a lot of attention back in February: A tenant taking his landlord to court for allegedly spanking him with a belt after the tenant fell $2,800 behind on rent.

Now, another alleged victim has come forward saying 53-year-old Ron Kronenberger did the same to him.

After seeing Kronenberger on the news, a mentally disabled man who volunteered at Kronenberger's grocery store in Waynesville came forward claiming a similar spanking incident happened to him not once, but at least three times.

"I was shocked," said Michelle Dakin, sister of the alleged victim. "It makes me upset just talking about it, because it's humiliating and embarrassing to our family. You know, we live in a small town and it never should've happen to my brother. He's very innocent and he volunteered at that store."

The mentally disabled man began volunteering at Hometown Marketplace in November, but by December, he no longer wanted to return.

"He said late December, ‘I'm not going back to that store,' and we questioned, 'Why aren't you going back to the store?' And that's when he told us," Dakin recalled.

According to the paperwork filed with the Warren County Common Pleas Court, the alleged spanking took place in Kronenberger's office at Hometown Marketplace with a belt and paddle.

When news of Kronenberger's run-in with a tenant was released, Dakin's family realized the magnitude of what may have happened to her brother.

"When it come out on the news that's when he said, 'Hey, hey did this to me. Not once but four times.'"

Dakin says Kronenberger told her brother not to tell anyone what had happened.

Waynesville residents are still hesitant to believe that a man they've known for years could be capable of such allegations.

"He was Citizen of the Year in 2006, and school bus driver, and I mean he runs a wonderful store over here," said Judy Prickett, who runs a barbershop next to Hometown Marketplace. "[He's] a really good business man."

Prickett said the news is affecting the small town of Waynesville, where everyone knows everyone by name.

"I don't know," Prickett reflected. "Nobody's perfect. You're innocent until proven guilty. That's the way I feel."

FOX19 attempted to contact Kronenberger at his store as well as his home, and eventually reached his attorney's office who said, "There is no comment at this time."
