The theatre department at one Rutherford County school is set for a big payday after winning NBC's "SMASH" Make A Musical Program.
The initiative aims to improve musical theater programs across the nation, and Central Magnet School in Murfreesboro made a big push to snag the top prize.
Central had more than 53,000 votes in the online competition and will now receive $3,000.
"We have a great facility that's been here in Murfreesboro for over 100 years, so we would just like to update some things in the auditorium," said theatre teacher Tara Winton.
Central is among five schools receiving the $3,000 in gift cards from Lowe's that can be used to purchase lumber, steel, hardware, tools, paint and any other materials that relate directly to improving the school's performance space.
Winton said they want to use the money to improve the auditorium and pay for new lights, seats and dressing rooms.
