East Texas brothers win the Catfish Cup on Animal Planet's 'Catfishin' Kings'

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

After weeks of wrangling catfish on Animal Planet's "Catfishin' Kings" two brothers from Martinsville, Texas have claimed victory.

Ronald and Greg Murdock won the Catfish Cup in Monday's finale. The duo beat Team Louisiana by 24.2 points after catching a 37 pound catfish and a 29.8 pound catfish.

"There are a lot of catfishing stories, but I've got the catfishing cup going in my house to back up all my fish stories," Ronald Murdock said in the episode.

Earlier in the competition, the Murdock brothers said they had a side-by-side strategy that they believed would help them become the kings of handfishing.

The East Texas "noodlers" met with KTRE on March 22 to talk about how the show has changed their lives.

"We've met some great folks from different states," Ronald Murdock said. "We grew up being competitors in sports and in everything that we did and just knowing that we can compete against everybody in anything we do."

Both brothers said that they didn't know anyone from East Texas that have been on national television.

"We're kind of country boys," Ronald Murdock said. "We always keep to ourselves, and all of the sudden, we're not to ourselves any more."

To see the finale for yourself, tune into Animal Planet at 9:00 p.m.
