CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

More than 300 Cincinnatians gorilla-suited up and hit the pavement for the second annual Cincinnati Gorilla Run.

The 5K run, walk, ride, and Little Gorilla 1K Fun Run provided a unique family-friendly way to raise money for the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund (MGCF), an organization dedicated to the preservation of mountain gorillas of Africa and to keeping Dian Fossey's dream alive for the past 27 years.

The race started and ended at the Montgomery Inn Boathouse. Following the race, participants attended the Silverback After Party which included lunch from Montgomery Inn Boathouse, live music, a beer garden, an awards ceremony and other fun family activities.

Gorilla Run victors were crowned based on qualities such as first to finish, most creative costumes, first kid on a bike, highest fundraiser and even last place finisher.

"We crown victors based on qualities such as best time, most creative costumes, first kid to finish and more," said Frank Keesling, MGCF. "There is even an award for the last place finisher. It's a fun way to show our appreciation for all who help donate to our organization, and we really enjoy seeing everyone's enthusiasm and creativity."

Top finishers include Joe Zeinner and Kim Ogle. The furthest traveling gorilla award went to Bethany Messina, traveling 2,372 miles from Portland.

The senior gorilla award went to Donna Mancini and the first kid to cross the finish line on a bike was Jack Lowry. The largest group and highest fundraiser were The Gorilla Glue Company and Lauren Evans respectively.

The event raised over $22 thousand for the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund.
