City of Tyler hopes funding will come through for airport's control tower

Posted: Updated:
TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

The Federal Aviation Administration announced on Friday, it will cease funding for the Tyler Pounds Regional Airport control tower.

The FAA announced it will cut funding to 149 towers in an effort to save hundreds of millions of dollars.

Even though the Tyler airport is fully functional without a control tower, city officials said they have not given up on FAA funding.

If the FAA appeal is not successful, then officials said they will evaluate other funding options, including local support.

"The bottom line is we are not giving up air service for our residents- nor the tremendous investment we have in Tyler Pounds," Guthrie said.

Tyler's Assistant City Manager Susan Guthrie said at this point nothing is finalized.
