Scammers impersonate NES employees, target Asian business owners

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Nashville Electric Service customers are urged to be on the lookout for con artists who are pretending to work for the utility.

NES representatives said Thursday that the scammers are calling customers and telling them they have bills that are past due.

The callers demand immediate payment in cash or by providing credit card or banking information.

NES officials say the crooks are targeting Asian business owners.

A similar scheme last September targeted Spanish-speaking customers.

NES says their employees always carry proper identification and never contact customers requesting personal information or to collect payment.
