Teen driver in critical condition after Tyler wreck

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Tyler police say an eighteen-year-old girl is stable, but in critical condition at a Tyler hospital after a wreck with another car.

Just after 7pm Wednesday, police say the girl, driving a white Pontiac Grand Am, entered the intersection of Golden Road and Fifth Street, headed west.

Witnesses say the girl could not see the traffic lights because of the glare from the setting sun, and may have run a red light.

In the intersection, she was hit by another driver. The wreck crushed the Grand Am's driver-side door, pinning the girl inside. Rescue officers had to cut the car open to get to the girl.

The driver of the other car was not hurt. Police have not released the names of either driver. They tell KLTV 7 that no citations have been issued, and none are expected at this time.
