A Gregg County man was sentenced to 40 years in prison for a 2010 car accident that killed a Longview man.
Charles Ray Owens Jr., 37, was found guilty of murder on Tuesday and sentenced on Wednesday for the car accident.
According Harrison County DPS, troopers were pursuing a white pick-up truck driven by Owens of Longview. Owens had a warrant for his arrest for burglary out of Michigan. Although he was originally from Michigan, he was currently living and working in Longview.
The high-speed chase ended when Owens' truck entered the intersection of East Loop 281 and Page Road and T-boned a burgundy Honda Accord, killing the driver, 62-year-old Robert E. Smith of Longview.
