Republican U.S. Representative Louie Gohmert was recently awarded a "Freedom Fighter Award" from the conservative non-profit FreedomWorks.
According to FreedomWorks, a "Freedom Fighter Award" is given to members of the house and senate who "vote in defense of economic freedom." To be eligible for the award, the nominee had to earn a score of 90% on the FreedomWorks Congressional Scorecard during the 2012 legislative session.
Gohmert received a score of 94% on the scorecard during the 2012 session, after racking up 92% the previous year. He was marked down for voting for H.R. 4628, which moved to extend student loan interest rates for certain undergraduate student loans. Gohmert also abstained from voting on H.R. 4348, which would require transportation spending to be capped.
So far in 2013, Gohmert has a perfect 100% score, according to the Congressional Scorecard.
FreedomWorks was founded in 1984 and is headquartered in Washington, DC. According to their website, FreedomWorks recruits, educates and mobilizes volunteer activists to fight for smaller government, lower taxes and more freedom.
