Caldwell Zoo boasts two new 'family members,' and you can help name them

Posted: Updated:

The Caldwell Zoo in Tyler has two new members in their "family," and they are asking the community to help name them.

The creatures are called Rock Hyraxes.

They only weigh about ten pounds, yet their closest living relative is the elephant!

They are natives of Africa, but this male and female duo came to Tyler from zoos on the East Coast.

However, they came without names of their own.

Caldwell Zoo's Scotty Stainback said, "Everything in the zoo's got names and it can get confusing sometimes, so the easier the name the easier it is for us to remember. But we like it, we think it's fun, and a lot of people come up with unique names so we want to see them all."

To help name these critters, head over to our Big Red Box, where you will find a link to the zoo's Facebook page.

The contest is open until Friday, March 22, and the winner will receive a one-year family zoo membership.
