Livingston
Police officers arrested a 51-year man for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
after he allegedly brandished a metal pipe at his 16-year-old niece and threw
it at her during an argument over a dog Sunday evening.
James Lee
Chambliss, of Livingston, is still being held in the Polk County Jail on a
first-degree felony charge of aggravated assault of a family member with a
deadly weapon. His bond has been set at $25,000.
According
to Lt. Matt Parrish of the Livingston Police Department, the incident occurred
in the 1000 block of West Noblitt Street around 3:44 p.m. Sunday. Parrish said
Chambliss and his niece allegedly got into a heated argument over the girl's
refusal to take care of a dog.
Parrish
said Chambliss swung the metal pipe around and flung it at her. He said that
this was an instance of assault by threat because the 16-year-old girl feared
for her life, and officers sought an arrest warrant for Chambliss after they
interviewed his niece and several eyewitnesses at the scene.
