A 35-year-old Corrigan man turned himself into the Polk County Sheriff's Office Sunday morning for allegedly stabbing another man in the face with a butcher knife on Jan. 27.
Horace "Lucky" Hayden Harrell III is still being held in the Polk County Jail on two felony charges - aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and probation violation. Collectively, his bail has been set at $45,000.
According to Cpl. Dana Vanya of the Corrigan Police Department, officers were dispatched to the scene of a stabbing at an apartment complex in the 300 block of W. Second Street at 6:13. When the officers arrived on the scene, they found the male victim standing in front of the apartment with a blood-soaked rag pressed to the wound in his face.
Vanya said the victim told the responding officers that he was about to knock on the apartment's door, when Harrell, "who was talking smack" allegedly came up behind him and stabbed him once in the face with what appeared to be a butcher knife and then walked off.
The victim was transported to Lufkin's Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injury.
Vanya said that she didn't know what the probation violation charge was about, and that Harrell called the Polk County Sheriff's Office and asked if they could "please" come pick him up because he was tired of running.
