The Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles are one of the number 1 seeds in the National Invitation Tournament, and will host Charleston Southern Wednesday night, in the opening round.
The Golden Eagles were the runners-up in the Conference USA tournament, losing to Memphis in the championship game. Their 25 wins were not enough to get them into the NCAA Tournament so they'll make their first appearance in the NIT since 2001.
A first round win would pit the Golden Eagles against either Florida State or Louisiana Tech.
Kentucky, Alabama and Virginia are the other number one seeds in the tournament.
