A Bossier City teenager is now facing charges, after he accidentally shot himself on Wednesday.
It happened at a home in the 2500 block of Hoyer Street.
Police say the 16-year-old initially told them that he was shot by an unknown person, but they later determined he was playing with the gun when he was shot in the side at point-blank range.
Police say the teen then walked 6 blocks to Patricia Drive and Foster Street to get help.
He was taken to LSU Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The teen has now been cited for being a minor in possession of a firearm and criminal mischief. The criminal mischief charge stems from the young man making a false report to police initially stating that someone had shot him.
The teen allegedly told police he found it outside a few weeks ago and had held on to it. The gun has been recovered. Bossier City Police Department spokesperson Mark Natale says a check showed the gun was not listed as stolen, nor did it indicate an owner. Copyright 2013 KSLA. All rights reserved.
