CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Local homeless organizations will receive more than $12 million in federal funding.

Strategies to End Homelessness is an organization that coordinates homelessness prevention and works in partnership with 30 non-profit organizations.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Continuum of Care for the Homeless funding process awarded $12.4 million in funding, after Strategies to End Homelessness submitted an application to HUD on behalf of 17 local agencies.

Officials say the funds will allow betterment programs for the homeless to continue, supporting permanent housing, rapid re-housing and transitional housing programs for people coming off the streets.

The award is given to local communities that exceed HUD standards in helping the homeless. Strategies to End Homelessness ensure that local resources are used in the Tri-State to help those in need.

The award was part of more than $1.5 billion in funding to over 7,000 homeless programs across the U.S., in effort to keep housing and service programs in operation.
