In an effort to raise funds for childhood cancer research, students at the University of Cincinnati shaved their heads during the annual St. Baldrick's Day celebration.
The event was held at O'Bryon's Irish Pub, starting at 7 p.m. As of Tuesday, 30 UC College of Medicine students had registered to get their heads shaved, pledging $6,336 for the Baldrick's Foundation.
The students' goal is $15,000.
St. Baldrick's Day is organized locally by the College of Medicine pediatrics club but is celebrated worldwide for cancer research. Since its founding, the St. Baldrick's Foundation has funded over $103 million in grants.
The shaving was done by professional barbers from Shane Weber Salon and faculty "barbers" from UC. In addition to the new do's, the event also included live music by UC students and several raffle prizes.
