They've only been collecting for two months and already have enough supplies to help 13,000 needy kids in the county. Today, PATH loaded up supplies for all elementary and middle schools of Smith County. Community members and businesses all over East Texas donated the items as part of the School Supply Train. Workers say, every year, the need for supplies grows and so do their contributions.
"Last year, there were 800 kids enrolled in free and reduced lunches, which is what we base our goals on. This year, that number was up to 13,000, so we set our goals high to collect more supplies and we did," says PATH Public Relations Director, Rachel Ashcraft.
PATH has been operating for 20 years and donating to Smith County schools since 1989.
