School uses video games to get kids to exercise

The ASF has figured out a way to get kids moving. The ASF has figured out a way to get kids moving.

The Alabama Sports Festival Foundation (ASF) has figured out a way to get kids moving. The organization has invested more than $700,000 to put Wii Fit systems in schools across Alabama.

"We found that there's a lot of students that maybe you can't get to move, but they will this way," said ASF's Suzanne Stone.

Stone said when a physical education teacher puts on one of the video games, it get the kids up and moving.

One of the games requires the player to mimic the dance moves of an animated dancer.

"It feels more like fun," said 2nd grader Rosie Phelps, a student at Hazel Green Elementary School.

The ASF said the games are basically tricking the kids into exercise.

"We're trying to get them to do more of the movement games because there are some sit down games, and we're trying to encourage them to do more of the exercise type stuff," Stone said.

This week, they will deliver the game systems to schools in DeKalb, Colbert, Madison, Limestone, and Jackson counties.
