Canton beats South Jones 67-45 for 5A title

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Ashley Beals scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Canton over South Jones 67-45 for the girls Mississippi 5A state championship on Saturday afternoon.

It is the Lady Tigers' first state title in school history. Beals shot 9 of 15 from the field and was named the game's Most Valuable Player.

Jamilah Sanders added 13 points for Canton (29-4), while Salleria Travis and Andreal Fleming each added 10 points for the Lady Tigers.

Canton shot 56% from the floor in the first half and 52% for the game.

Shay Kirk led South Jones (24-9) with 13 points. Shania Posey added 10 points for the Lady Braves, which finished as the runner-up for a second consecutive season.
