A group of teens are spending their spring break renovating an East Texas woman's home.
The youth group at "Our Saviour's Lutheran Church" in Tyler is giving a church member's home a total makeover.
only thing I had said to them at the beginning of the year was that I
was going to have to slow it up at church and take of some "honey do's"
around my house that honey wasn't here to do," said homeowner Nancy Cox.
Cox said she is an active volunteer for her church and other non-profits in East Texas.
said she lost her husband to leukemia about five years ago and suffered
three mini strokes leaving major projects around her home unfinished.
"My health just hasn't let me do a whole lot," Cox explained.
told her church she would have to cut back on her volunteer time to
work on the projects; the church immediately stepped in to help.
is a charitable woman, she does a lot for our church, she does a lot
for the non profitable's in Tyler and she's a really hard worker and so
when I knew she was in consideration for doing this, I was all for it,"
said friend and volunteer Jana Coke.
"It was a big answer to a
prayer. At first I told them no. My pride got in the way and I said no.
Then, it really dawned on me that this is what you have prayed for so I
finally said yes," Cox said.
From yard work to siding, there are
few areas of the property left untouched. One project dear to her heart
is the makeover to late husband's shed.
As a toy maker she said
he spent hours there perfecting his work. Now, thanks to these
volunteers, the tools she is not quite ready to let go of have a safe
place to rest.
"I just want to thank everybody and like I said miracles to do happen," Cox said.
