Shreveport Police investigators are combing through a warehouse in West Shreveport as part of an on-going investigation into a suspected motor vehicle chop shop.
So far, two people have been arrested.
The investigation began when a person whose vehicle had been stolen called police and told them that parts of his vehicle could be seen outside the warehouse at 4212 Pro St.
Officers went to check it out and confirmed the parts were from the stolen vehicle. Further investigation revealed that numerous items inside the warehouse appeared to be from countless stolen vehicles.
30-year-old Alvin Lattier, who leases the warehouse, was arrested and charged with illegal possession of stolen things.
24-year-old Carlos Edwards was arrested and charged with illegal possession of a stolen firearm, which was found inside the warehouse. Police say Edwards admitted to ownership of the weapon. Investigators are still working to determine what role, if any, Edwards may have played in the alleged chop shop operation.
Police say that more charges could be filed against Edwards and Lattier, and more arrests could be made.
SPD Cpl. Marcus Hines says the warehouse is now in police possession, with the Shreveport Police Property Crimes Unit investigating. Louisiana State Police also have been called in to assist because of the scale of operation.
The stolen body parts included doors, engines, radio components, seats, and more. As part of the process, investigators will be running vehicle identification numbers on all the parts found on the property, and running them against records of vehicles reported stolen.
