A Chapel Hill man is in police custody after reportedly breaking into an Army Navy store in Tyler.

The burglary happened around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Loop 323 and Old Omen Road.

According to a police report, two Tyler motorcycle officers were driving by the store when they heard the store alarm going off. When the officers stopped to check on the building, they discovered a large hole had been cut into the back of the store.

As officers were searching the rest of the building, they saw 21-year-old Richard Moore leave the woods behind the store. When authorities caught up with Moore for questioning, he confessed to breaking into the building. He had a small axe that he used to cut through the wall, as well as a pair of gloves and a flashlight he had stolen from the store.

Moore was transported to ETMC for a cut on his leg not related to the break-in. He will be booked at the Smith County Jail after his release on charges of Burglary of a building.
